Volunteer Service

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the Coast Guard. Founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the US Coast Guard Reserves and re-designated the Auxiliary in 1941.


The Director of the Auxiliary is the direct representative of the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. (Title 14, USC Ch.23)
